MSF - Doctors Without Borders Description

Médecins Sans Frontières is an international, independent, medical-humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, malnutrition, health care exclusion and natural or man-made disasters in around 60 countries worldwide. In Somalia, for many years Somalis have endured violence, displacement, malnutrition and a severe lack of access to adequate health care. Sadly it is no different today. In fact a range of factors including ongoing and indiscriminate violence; the collapse of the local economy and the ability to transport and deliver food aid have exacerbated people’s already appalling living conditions. Médecins Sans Frontières remains the main provider of free medical services in all of central and southern Somalia with 1,452 Somali staff, supported by 104 international staff based in Nairobi, providing primary health care, malnutrition treatment, support to displaced people, surgery, water and relief supply distributions in nine regions of the country. In 2009 all funds for Médecins Sans Frontières’ work come from private donors. You can help continue their work in Somalia and elsewhere by making a donation today.
